How to Use SEO and Social Media to Advertise Your Photography Business

Just found this article from PDN and thought you might want to check it out.  From the article:

Photographers who think their Web sites are simply online versions of their print portfolios aren’t taking advantage of the way people use the internet to find information, and look for products and services they want, says Allen Murabayashi of PhotoShelter. The co-founder of the Web site design and hosting service offered tips for making your site  a more effective marketing tool during his video tutorial, “Your Web Site is Killing Your Business,” at the PDN Virtual Trade Show, “Focus on Wedding and Portrait Photography,” on May 25.

You can read the full article here.  In other Shuttermom news, I just added some brand new tips on how to conduct a “Fresh Faces” or “Model Search” contest for your photography business on the Shuttermom University forum. Do you have a promo video for your photo biz?

Want to put your photography business ahead of the competition when it comes to building relationships, getting more calls, and booking more clients?  Looking for a relatively inexpensive way to market your photography business?  Look no further than your video camera.

Promotional videos are becoming more popular, and for good reason.  If you want potential clients to be able to see you working and interacting with clients, video is the way to go.  You can also speak directly to potential clients through video.  This gives them the feeling that they already know you before they call.  Video is also a great way to show off your still images, and can easily be embedded into your website or blog.  Check out the promo videos below.  One is very simple, the other more complex.  Both of them are a great way to get more business.

If you are new to video, start out with an inexpensive flip video camera and have a friend shoot you during a session. Set it to music and include some still shots (using windows movie maker or whatever came with your computer). There’s your first video.

Want to know more?  There is a full 21 minute video on the what, why and how of promotional video for your photo biz on the members only side of Shuttermom University.  Come and join in the fun for less than $5 a month (and use coupon code 80BE6FB23E for a 10% savings today and tomorrow only)!  See you there!

Chicago Photographer’s Pin-Up Portrait Business

This Chicago photographer has carved out a profitable niche for her business:  Pin Up Photography. “We’re trying to even out the playing field with things we’re bombarded by on a daily basis,” Stumpf said before a shoot. “How women should look in advertising, magazines, billboards. From a very young age we think, ‘I can never be like this’ or ‘How can I be like this?’ We say with the right care, makeup, photography and pose coaching, you can attain what you want.” For the full article, click here.
